Speech and Language Therapy

How do you know if your child needs speech and language therapy? Ask yourself these questions. Can they ask for what they want and need? Is there frustration around not being understood? Can they hear and understand what is being said? Are they interacting with others in their world? Are they engaging in play? Oftentimes, as parents, it is hard to know whether to 'wait and see' or get some professional advice. You want what's best for your child. A quick online search will give you checklists and milestones and maybe even some free advice but this is not the same as having a skilled professional assess your child's communication.

Colette's approach to supporting children with communication difficulties is functional and individualised. Through play, she will be able to tell you if your child's communication skills are on track or if there is anything you need to be concerned about. She will take into consideration your child's individual profile of development. It is not a 'one size fits all' approach.

Feeding Therapy

Feeding therapy can help your child improve their ability to eat and drink safely and pleasurably. It can help with a wide range of feeding challenges, including difficulties with chewing, swallowing, progressing with solids, food aversions and picky eating. Supporting children with feeding difficulties typically requires multidisciplinary team input. This does depend on the complexity of your child's feeding difficulties.

Colette's approach to supporting children with eating and drinking challenges is holistic, looking at specific skills alongside mealtime relationships and environments. Colette will always recommend seeking input from other professionals when this is indicated. This might involve a referral to publicly-funded services or other private providers.
